Becoming Catholic

Each year, thousands of people are baptized into the Catholic Church in the United States. Parishes welcome these new Catholics through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).  This is the process through which adults and children join or complete their initiation into the Catholic Church.

The RCIA is for three groups of people:

  1. Those who are not baptized.
  2. Those who were baptized into another Christian denominatiion and wish to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.
  3. Baptized Catholics who were never formed in the Catholic faith and have not completed their initiation and have not received the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

To learn more, visit or call the Catholic Church in your neighborhood or contact the Diocesan Office of Liturgy at 801-328-8641 ext. 363.
