Wilson Family 2015

Four Generations Steeped in the Tradition of Giving

The Wilson family’s Utah legacy began in 1958 when John F. (Jack) Wilson and Florence (Flo) Wilson moved their growing family from Cincinnati, Ohio to Salt Lake City, Utah when Jack accepted a faculty position with The University of Utah Medical School while continuing his practice in pediatrics and research into childhood blood disorders.

Jack and Florence, who are celebrating sixty-five years of marriage this year, ultimately had eight children; three sons and five daughters. Reflecting on a family of ten, certainly large by today’s standards, Florence says, “Catholics had big families and we did our part,” smiling fondly as she considers her brood of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John B. Wilson, the eldest child of Jack and Flo, was seven years old when the family moved to Utah. John is currently serving as President of The Catholic Foundation of Utah and is married to Lynn Harner Wilson. They are the proud parents of daughter Rebecca, and son John Daniel. Daniel and wife Cori Moody Wilson share the abundant blessing of their two sons, John Lucas (Luke), age four, and James Ryan, born August of this year, who can often be seen accompanied by their doting grandparents John and Lynn.

All of Jack and Flo’s children attended either The Cathedral or Saint Vincent’s grade schools and went on to graduate from Saint Mary of the Wasatch or Judge Memorial, as did Lynn Wilson and her two older brothers. Rebecca and Daniel and all of their cousins living in Salt Lake City are graduates of Judge as well.

The Wilson family’s long history with Judge led John and Lynn to establish The John B. and Lynn M. Wilson Family Endowment which provides monies for the overall operation of the school. John explained his commitment saying, “for many years Judge was not just a place of learning, but the crossroads for the Catholic community, the place where relationships were established and cemented to last a lifetime. We want to do what we can to see that continue.” John continues, “our grandson Luke is in the Cosgriff pre-school program. I would like nothing more than to see him and his brother as students at Judge someday.”

Jack and Florence regularly contribute to John and Lynn’s endowment, while also establishing an endowment for promoting priest vocations through their estate planning efforts.

The Wilson family; four generations steeped in the tradition of sharing and giving. The Wilsons continue to display a dynamic family bond and a love of being Catholic.

Thank you Wilsons and may your Bulldog spirit carry on!
