The Cathedral of the Madeleine

VIBRANT FAITH, JOYFUL SERVICE

The Cathedral of The Madeleine poignantly reminds us of our vibrant faith as we witness her beauty and significance. Bishop Oscar A. Solis entered into our lives on March 7, 2017 at the Cathedral and has reflected that the Cathedral plays many roles in our lives; Sacramental Celebrations, prayer services, concerts, weddings, joyful service, funerals, award ceremonies, graduations, retreats, civic gatherings, installations, ordinations and prayer.

For more than 100 years this majestic building has stood on South Temple as a symbol of strength, fortitude, culture and a testament to the faith, vision and optimism of our religious and lay forefathers. The Cathedral of the Madeleine has solidified its status in the City as a treasured place of beauty, culture, and art that people of all faiths have enjoyed.

Tourists from around the world have made visiting our Cathedral of the Madeleine a central part of their site seeing. Visitors are amazed such a grand treasure can be found in Utah. It is imperative that we carry on the tradition of support and prove that the trustee’s efforts of those responsible for the Cathedral and its renovations were well founded.

While the Cathedral is a parish with support from its regular parishioners, the cost to maintain such a grand, historic Cathedral is simply too much to be borne by The Cathedral Parishioners. The annual operating costs of the Cathedral require nearly $500,000 more than what her Parishioners can provide. As the Mother Church of our diocese, it is necessary that Catholics throughout Utah feel compelled to provide for the Cathedral’s care and future; hopefully considering the Cathedral of the Madeleine to be a parish of your own.

The Cathedral of the Madeleine endowments within The Catholic Foundation of Utah were established for the maintenance and care of our beloved Cathedral. It is imperative that we continue to fund this Utah treasure.
